The Customer
Salute My Job is a veteran-owned enterprise committed to bolstering veteran employability through meticulous training and development programs. With a sharp focus on transitioning military personnel into thriving civilian careers, their structured programs emphasise sectors such as AI, penetration testing, and cybersecurity. The company operates within three primary domains: recruitment for military personnel, consulting for armed forces covenant signatories, and the comprehensive pathways program. This conversion is supported by organisations like Abertay University and grant funding from Nominet.
The Challenge: Transitioning from Military Mindset to Tech Proficiency
Veterans often face significant hurdles in adapting their military skills to fit civilian job markets. While the veterans possess a highly progressive mindset and are continually trained to adapt, there is a widespread misconception that military personnel are rigid and unadaptable. Furthermore, the challenge lies in dispelling this myth while providing practical experience, portfolio development, and foot-in-the-door opportunities in the tech industry. Salute My Job bridge this gap by offering effective training and verifying skill acquisition through credible company endorsements.

Our Approach
Tim was able to share his industry knowledge with the Salute My Job participants.
This began with understanding the rigorous, up to 18-month-long training and the mindset driven by continuous learning in the military and contribute in this journey.
The key lay in harnessing their hunger for knowledge and their adaptable nature.
The modules were designed not only to imbue technical skills, such as coding languages like Python, but also to offer governance and policy courses. These courses required veterans to apply theoretical concepts in real-world scenarios, transforming abstract knowledge into tangible, job-ready skills. The combination of technical tutoring, practical applications, and portfolio-building exercises aimed to elevate each candidate’s confidence and job appeal.

The Outcome
The outcome of this meticulously structured training program was outstanding. Veterans transited from roles reliant on physical exertion to positions in cybersecurity and AI that are intellectually demanding and often can be performed remotely. This shift allows veterans to extend their employable years well into their 60s, providing longevity and stability. The success was not only measured in the proficient execution of technical skills but also in the formation of robust portfolios that clearly demonstrated their capabilities.
The veterans, now equipped with tech-savvy insights and backed by genuine endorsements, found themselves more confident and prepared for the job market. This success story stands as a testament to the significant impact focused training programs can have, equipping veterans with both the skills and the validation they need to thrive in the tech industry.
